The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is currently looking for an Applied Technology Technician to work in our Radioactive Materials Laboratory (RML). The RML Operations unit focus' on supporting the testing capabilities of the laboratory. The laboratory performs examinations of equipment for the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. These examinations and test data support new technologies and the fleet. This dynamic environment involves all aspects of nuclear work. The RML Operations unit is seeking individuals to support and extend our mission. A successful candidate will perform work associated with preparation, assembly, configuration, operation, maintenance, and decommissioning of testing and production facilities, consistent with qualifications and assigned job task in the RML as a Team member of the Radiological Work Team (RWT). The RWT is responsible for the execution of a wide variety of complex work tasks involving radioactive material. The candidate will be required to obtain and maintain safety and hygiene qualifications, advanced radiological qualifications and the skills necessary to execute radiological work per Technical Work Documents.

Job responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • The repair, replacement of test support equipment used for the examination of radioactive/nuclear materials.
  • Diagnosing needed repairs of test support equipment and supporting efforts to perform the repair.
  • Radioactive specimen transfers/movements.
  • Monitoring and oversight of radioactive work activities and other routine operations required to maintain the laboratory in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Qualification and Operation of powered industrial equipment such as fork trucks.
  • Job Requirements

    Intermediate:

  • AAS in engineering, science, technology or Journeyman's Papers.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience.

  • Senior:

  • AAS in engineering, science, technology or Journeyman's Papers.
  • A minimum of six years of relevant experience.
  • Job Preferred Skills

  • Contamination worker with experience and/or qualifications with glovebag/glovebox work.
  • Operator of powered industrial equipment.
  • Experience with problem resolution.
