Overview The Sill seeks a Full Stack Engineer, with considerable front-end Shopify experience, to oversee the Companys complete tech stack. As our first in-house engineer, you will directly impact the end-to-end customer experience as well as the Companys operating systems to drive operational efficiency. The opportunity is highly entrepreneurial requiring an ability to thrive in a fast paced environment and the ambition to grow The Sill into a category leading company.
Location This role will be located at The Sills headquarters in New York City.
Reporting This role will report directly to The Sills Leadership Team.
Role Description The role will be both broad and diverse, requiring knowledge of both front-end and back-end development, applications to assist in gathering data for our marketing and merchandising teams, as well as applications and operating systems to improve our brick-and-mortar retail, supply chain and fulfillment strategy.
The role will require you to roll up your sleeves and do all the coding as well as high-level architecture and strategic planning to drive best-in-class front-end experiences as well as the Companys core technology strategy, leading technical collaborations with partners, and innovating existing processes to optimize company wide operations.
Areas of Responsibility Assess and improve The Sills current technology stack keeping both customer and employee experience top of mind Translate business needs into systems strategy and solutions Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to design, develop and launch new website features with the distinct ability to move between projects, understand business needs, and business wide implications, and be consultative throughout Work with UX design team to produce tight, forward-thinking, responsive and scalable front-end experiences on desktop and mobile devices Add/modify sections/snippets/templates to existing Shopify theme Document and adhere to coding standards to ensure high-quality work across all projects Debug and troubleshoot issues across all layers of our tech stack Research, evaluate and implement 3rd party apps and plugins Create and maintain API/EDI portals for drop ship partners Implement business intelligence tools to monitor all aspects of our business Scope and assess project needs to assist PM, provide accurate timelines, and meet deadlines
Key Traits & Qualifications 5+ years responsive web development and experience converting designs into interactive digital experiences 2-3+ years Shopify development experience, including Shopifys Liquid template system, themekit, building custom themes and features from scratch as well as modifications to existing elements and ability to write Shopify scripts Demonstrate a mastery of HTML, CSS/SCSS & JavaScript/jQuery Well-versed in Git version control system Deep understanding of cross-browser/platform, device testing, and debugging Experience using JS libraries Experience with Google Tags Manager Experience with start-up culture quick turnaround, flexibility, troubleshooting Ability to write clean, readable code and tests Ability to work off a mockup (ex: PDF/Sketch) to convert designs into frontend code Ability to communicate web design effectively, regardless of the audience Familiarity with npm package management Familiarity with developing for accessibility and SEO Familiarity with Stitch Labs, Shipstation, and/or Klaviyo a plus
