We are looking for a Senior Linux Systems Engineer to join our Cloud, Platform Technology and Infrastructure team. This candidate will assist the team in defining needs, benefits, and technical strategy; technical analysis and design.

This candidate will also support the operations staff in executing, testing and rolling-out solutions. The candidate will be responsible for Linux servers/desktops that support the firm wide infrastructure including those that support cloud and hosting operations.
The candidate will engineer and provision the systems, operations and support, maintenance, research and development to ensure continual innovation.
The position provides senior-level system administration support for our core web/app product and associated applications and systems.

The preferred candidate is a self-starter and well-rounded professional with strong knowledge in systems, system administration, storage, security and networking. The candidate should be passionate about technology and eager to work with team members in a fast-paced environment developing solutions supporting business objectives.


  • Designing, implementing and supporting Linux computing systems hardware and software infrastructure using the following service models: on-premise, managed hosted, SaaS cloud
  • Providing system architecture, implementation, system administration, troubleshooting and operational supporting for an OLTP webapp environments
  • Collaborating with peers to formalize systems engineering, application support and operation processes and procedures based on industry standards (ITL, ISO, COBIT) and best practices
  • Managing system deployment lifecycle and helping enforce Change Management Policies
  • Developing a framework to provide performance baseline and improvement for critical business applications
  • Elaborating strategy to deliver business value by using evolving infrastructure technology: cloud technology (IaaS, SaaS, PaaS, and others), Managed Service Provider, hybrid, etc.
  • Assisting in developing, implementing and enforcing systems security policies and procedures
  • Collaborating with Security Team to implement and regularly test systems security controls
  • Providing third level escalation for operation problems and incidents
  • Resolving issues within prescribed SLA's and adhering to incident management procedures
  • Performing Linux virtualization implementations, supporting and upgrades
  • Working with application development teams, internal clients and external clients on creating systems requirements, projection and growth
  • Monitoring technology changes, advancements trends and innovations
  • Coordinating and executing changes thru the change control policy and process
  • Part of on-call support rotation team with after-hours and weekend balanced work as required
  • Mentoring less experienced team members.
  • Developing and maintaining installation and configuration procedures; contributing to and maintain system standards; creating and maintain documentation
  • Providing support to various end user and developer groups by request. Investigating/troubleshooting issues.
  • Applying OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configuring / adding new services as necessary.
  • Performing ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.
  • Adhering to firm Change Management, Problem Management policies and familiarity with ITIL or other formalized IT operations foundations


  • Minimum 7+ years relevant experience in an operational senior Linux administration role supporting mission-critical platforms, including physical and virtualized environments
  • Systems Administration/System Engineer certification in Linux+, e.g., CompTIA Linux+, Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
  • Experience installing, configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting current and legacy Linux servers and desktops (RPM-based)
  • Expert knowledge of the Linux Kernel and hands-on experience with various Linux distribution: Red Hat 6,7, Oracle Linux 5-7, AWS Linux 2016-2018 and the file system architectures and machine architectures of each Linux distribution
  • Strong understanding of Linux security principles, defense in-depth, firewalls, IPS/IDS, identity management, authentication and encryption
  • Solid experience with AWS
  • Deep knowledge of Enterprise Storage Technology, iSCSI & Fiber Channel Switching, NAS and NFS/CIFS, and Data Replication technologies, Performance tuning of Enterprise servers
  • Solid knowledge of LVM, SAN, NAS, RAID, EXT3 & 4 Experience with the following technologies: HP servers, VMWare, AWS, Ansible, Splunk, Centrify, IPAM.
  • Understanding of advanced networking concepts and protocols (IP addressing/subnet masks, DHCP, DNS, NTP, etc.) and network diagnostic tools (protocol analysis with tcpdump/Wireshark)
  • Basic familiarity with switching versus routing and VLANs, network load balancing
  • Thorough understanding of systems and network protocols (Apache, Tomcat, LDAP, DNS, DHCP, Kerberos, NFS, TCP/IP, SMTP, IMAP, FTP, SSH/SCP, HTTP, SSL,) and UNIX/Linux system internals (kernel, drivers, file systems, virtual memory).

  • Thorough understanding of Active Directory principals, management and best practices as it relates to access controls with Linux systems
  • Proficient with bash and other scripting languages
  • Deep experience with vulnerability, patch management and related information security functions using Spacewalk
  • Experience with integration of MFA technologies for authentication to Linux operating system
  • Experience implementing and managing linux operating system access policies
  • Strong knowledge of virtualization technology: VMware (vCenter, vSphere 4-6 and ESX 4-6)
  • Understanding of database and web application concept and architecture: Oracle, Postgres, WebLogic, Tomcat
  • Understanding of system and storage design appropriate to support Oracle, Postgres databases and WebLogic and Tomcat application server
  • Proven track record in designing and implementing highly available, scalable, resilient and fault tolerant systems platform
  • Experience with cloud computing technology: PaaS, IaaS, SaaS
  • Strong hands-on experience with systems automation and infrastructure as code techniques in order to increase systems administration efficiency and support using Ansible
  • Must be a self-starter and be able to work independently, but also within a team, Strong interpersonal skills: ability to communicate with customers, vendors, partners and business managers across various levels of the organization, meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and frame work (ITIL, ISO, COBIT) a plus
  • Must be willing to work off-hours/weekends to support operational needs
  • Good project management skills
  • Experience in log management processes using Syslog, Splunk and SolarWinds preferred
